Yes her name was Gertie, short for Gertrude. Anyway she could do and sew anything from crocheting , smocking to knitting etc. And i just remember sitting on her sewing machine chair once, and i started fiddling around with the sewing machine and i got an electric shock. In my head remembering the moment it felt a lot worse than it probably was. But i will never forget it … anyway that’s just a little anecdote that i thought i would share about what i remember about my amazing great granny. So i was lucky enough to inherit my great granny’s buttons stash and below are a few cards from that stash as well as the most awesome picture of my Great Granny Gerty.
I totally won this game of button tennis. Look what i found they were hiding away in a little sewing kit of mine. I have no idea where i got them, but im so happy as they are going straight into my badly printed shank collection.
Look what i found sorting my buttons, these buttons only have 3 holes WOW. I found one at first thinking it was a mutated button - until i found the other two realising that they were made that way. shame HOW RAD!
Going away this weekend to the bush, so by the time i get back ill be mellow….. and maybe yellow. (It is so needed.) Anyway i thought this was a really nice ensemble of yellows. Have a good weekend.
Lately i have been so in love with this peachy kinda colour and i think my great granny and granny were too, as i have lots of these colours in my collection. Thanks Granny Gertie and Granny Jeanie.
These are all my white buttons, pretty hey? I got totally “art” on taking photos of them, so this is quite an epic post. Anyway hope you are having an awesome Saturday.
Hi guys these pinkzies are a new purchase i dug them out of a big bucket of buttons at R5 a cup from the Oriental Plaza. So i would say this is a good buy . PS: Angie your camera is amazing - Thank you for loaning it to me, your face is okay.
So this is my excuse for zero posts last week, i think its a valid one. Angie and i were given the task to do WHATEVER we wanted to the front bar counter at work. Lucky us, we decided to stick down 4261 buttons (i made that number up - and wouldn’t be surprised if it was more) spelling out the word hello. Crazy we know, but the whole process was rather therapeutic. Angie pants also posted about this awesome project here. PS: thank you Lauren for helping out. From this whole process we found a button factory shop which I’m sure i will post about soon.
Look someone else blogged about us here.
